Early this last summer, I took my new (old) sailboat out for my maiden voyage with it. I went out of Mission Bay, and my plans were to head out the channel and into the Pacific, then down around Point Loma. The water was filled with a race of those five-man outrigger canoes. I had a terrible time, crossing and recrossing their paths, as I was trying to learn the nuances of the way my boat handled. It's difficult being powered by the wind when everyone around you is using their own power to navigate.
